PAGE 18 -THE NEWS-DEMOCRAT, FRIDAY, MAY 10, 2013 BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT- Tessa Colleen Wright was born February 7. She weighed eight pounds 15.5 ounces and was 22 inches long. Parents are Chad and Karen Wright of Dickson, grandparents are James and Kathryn Long of McEwen and Dennis and Tina Wright of Waverly, great grandmothers are Mary Ellen Baker and Zella Wright of McEwen, and great, great grandmother is Ruth Denton of Linden. FIVE GENERATIONS - Five generations were together recently. McEwen's Hapnings By Lucille Shanks A Happy Mother's Day to all of you moms. Sunday, May 12 is observed as Mother's Day, so if you still have your mom here on earth with you, be sure to tell her bow much you love her and appreciate the sacrifices she made for you over the years. Mothers are special! Dorothy McMillan, Kathy Stokes and Katie Stokes enjoyed a trip to Chattanooga over the weekend. On Friday afternoon they visited with Gary Jared and J.B. Jared. Gary's wife Nancy and J.B.'s wife Joan were attending a mother- daughter banquet. J.B. and Joan Jared of Florida were visiting in Chattanooga with Gary and Nancy Jared and family. On Friday night, Dorothy, Kathy, J.B. and Gary enjoyed dinner together. On Saturday, May 4, Gary Jared received his Doctor of Divinity Degree in the Commerce class of 2012-2013 at Temple University and Temple Baptist Seminary. The event was held at the Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga. Congratulations to Dr. received a good report and was released, so this is good news. Jean Ellis of Nashville visited with Nancy Winters on Thursday night. Jean and Nancy and Shirley Rickard all visited with their room, Mary Tittle and Randy on Thursday. Randy Tittle attended the memorial service that was held on April 30 tor 15-year-old Tristan (Davetree) Sanders at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. He is the son of Johnny Mance Sanders of McEwen. We extend sympathy to the family. We also extend sympathy to others who have lost loved ones. xyillie Stepp Jr. passed away in Missouri. He was buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in McEwen. James T. Mathews passed away on May 2 at his home in Kingston. He is the brother of Edie Bullington, Betty Harvey and Lois Carson of McEwen. Samuel Eugene Stewart passed away on May 3 at Three Rivers Hospital. Rev. Edward Woolum passed away on May 2. Helen and Kenneth May, Vonda Kimmons and Edward and Margie Gunn attended the memorial service for Irene Claxton Dady that was held on Sunday, May 5 at the Phillips and Robertson Funeral Home in Nashville. Irene was a graduate of McEwen High School. We were saddened when we heard of her passing. Brenda and Mailory Palk visited with Virginia Holland and Hettie Patterson on Saturday and brought her some flowers that she had ordered. Also Bruce Johnson of Manchester visited with them. He and Hettie have been friends for years but had not seen each other since 1970. They had kept in touch through the years. They had a great visit. Virginia tells me that she is improving since her daughter has moved in with her. Our sick/prayer list includes Leon Moody, Neil Wilson, Bethany Burdette, John Bernard Bradley, Carl Clement, Linda Chessor, Ruth Hicks, Maxine Cable, Dot Goodgine, Virgie Priest, Maggie McCasland, Margaret Shanks, Margaret Mangrum, Harvel McCrary, Ellawease King, Zella Wright, Christine Donegan, Wilma White, Julia and Willard Sugg, • Hugh O'Guin, Helen Pullen, Carol Boone, J.W. and Sandra Hooper and my youngest son, Ricky Shanks was admitted to Horizon Medical Center on Tuesday morning. He has pneumonia. Happy birthday wishes go to Allen Herbison, Hattie Ligon, Ricky Crump, Ella Mac Milligan, Kenneth Mayberry, Kelly Norville, Mary Warren, Mary Ellen Baker, Harris Buchanan, Carlton Hooper, Patty Petty, Vicky Holland, Jarred Patrick and John VanSickle. Special wishes go to my brother, Paul A. Proffit, Sr., on May 11, Helen Damesworth on May 12, my great granddaughter, Brooke McCord will be 18-years-old and Betty Dotson Warren who shares the same birthday on May 13 and I will be a year older on May 16. Wedding anniversaries include Gary and Nancy Donegan on May 14 and Jeff and Angela Wallace (their 20 th) on May 15, congratulations ! If you have news, please call me at 582-3309.
